1. Security and Privacy
How secure are my banking details?
One Present use Barclays Bank and Secure Hosting as their online payment partners.
These large, well recognized organisations provide the highest level of protection
to thousands of businesses and millions of customers.
By using the service will anybody be able to access my personal details on
the Internet?
Absolutely not, your details will not be accessible to anybody other than One
Present. Even the people making contributions will only be able to check the name,
present request and date of your event.
Will my personal details be sent to third parties who could include me on unwanted
mailing lists or contact me by email?
No, One Present will keep your personal details confidential. When registering
you have the option to receive the occasional update or newsletter from One Present.
2. Charges
How does One Present make its money?
Individuals making a present request are charged a fixed fee to use the service:
- Children's Parties £5
- Weddings and Other Special Occasions £10
One Present does not make any further charges. One Present does not charge people
who are contributing and does not take any part of the money contributed, no matter
how much it is.
What about Barclays and Secure Hosting, what do they charge?
The banking charges are deducted from each contribution made:
- Credit Card 3.07%
- Debit Card 36.74p
The maximum amount that will be charged will therefore be 36.74p per transaction,
if a debit card is used for contributions of more than £12.
3. Making a Present Request
Can I ask for whatever I want?
Yes, this is one of the great benefits of One Present - receive the present
you really want.
Is it not a bit cheeky asking people to contribute towards a present?
Almost everyone takes a present to a party or wedding. These days wedding lists
are commonplace, in fact expected. You are making life easier for your guests,
who really just want a simple way of buying something that you really want. Imagine
if a friend asked you to contribute - would you mind?
In any case, there is no obligation for your guests to use One Present; any more
than there is an obligation for them to buy a gift. You are simply giving them
the option. Requesting that people contribute towards a single present is not
only socially acceptable; it is increasingly seen as a sensible alternative to
receiving smaller gifts.
How will my guests know how to contribute towards my one present?
After you have registered with One Present, you will be able to print out vouchers
(see an example here) providing unique details
of your request, which can then be included with your invitations.
How do I print the vouchers?
You will be provided with a reference number and password. By entering these
you will be able to generate your vouchers.
Do I need to ask all of my guests to use One Present?
No, it's entirely up to you. For example, when organising a wedding you may
have a number of items for your wedding list but not enough for all your guests
to buy something. Instead of stretching the list with things that you do not really
want, why not provide the wedding list to some of your guests and ask the remainder
to contribute towards a larger present? Or give everybody the option.
What happens if I change my mind and want to cancel my One Present registration?
Please contact us at contact@onepresent.co.uk
and we will help you. If you have not sent out your request vouchers you can re-register
with new details at no extra charge. If you have sent the request vouchers, there
is the risk that people will have already contributed. You can contact One Present
who will cancel your request, to prevent further contributions being made. One
Present will still forward to you the total contributions collected even if an
event is subsequently changed or cancelled.
4. Receiving the Total Collected
When will I receive the total contribution?
The total collected will be sent to your bank account on the morning of the date you stipulate when you make the present request. Depending upon your bank the money could take 3 to 5 days to clear.
People will be able to contribute up until midnight of the previous day. The request vouchers inform your guests that they need to contribute before the date you select.
You can view a 'Contributions E-Card' (see example here), a summary
of your received contributions at any point after the event has been set up, giving you
an ongoing view of contributions made.
Will One Present be keeping any of the money that my friends have contributed?
No, One Present will not keep any of the money contributed. Barclays charge
a small amount for using credit/debit cards. The amount collected after these
charges is held in a designated bank account before being sent to you.
Why does the e-card showing the total collected not always include the individual
amounts given? (see example e-card here)
Some people making contributions prefer the amount they have given not to be
shown. In these cases One Present only includes the name of the person who has
contributed.
Does One Present buy the present I have requested?
No, it is the responsibility of the individual to buy the present with the
funds received.
Can I change my mind and buy a different present?
Yes, we do not think your guests will mind, as long as you buy something you
really want!
What happens if the total collected is for more or less than the value of the
present I would like to buy?
You will receive the total collected irrespective of whether this is more or
less than the value of the present requested. What you ultimately spend it on
is up to you!
5. Making a Contribution
How do I make a contribution?
You will have received details from the person holding the event. This will
normally take the form of a request voucher. The voucher will give you a unique
reference number and a password. Simply log in to Onepresent.co.uk and enter the
details on the front page of the site. You will then be sent through to the contribution
page.
How much should I give?
It's totally up to you. Usually people contribute about the same they would
have spent on a gift. You do have to contribute in whole currency units (no pence).
So it's anything from a pound upwards.
Will I receive a receipt for my contribution?
Yes, we will send you an email confirming the amount you have contributed.
How does the person holding the party know that I have contributed?
Your name will appear on a congratulatory E-card
sent on the day of the event. When you make your contribution, you will be given
the option whether or not to disclose the amount you contributed.
